About:

Re-Brushed revisit to one of my friends, family and fans favourite little characters I ever drew until now. (Well, and he’s a big favourite of mine, too) I felt somehow I need to reBrush the old works on new papers, since it has all been black and white and was done on 80g/qm, plain copy paper and did not look all that well and clean any more after six years.
I guess it was worth the trouble, it looks fresher then before.
And helped me set the tone for “Mortimer” and thinks to come for him and his Daddy.

About the Original:

This little comic was an Excercise for my Studyings. Absolutely had no idea what to do, until one Night at 5 AM I listened to the news, where a backing company got an award for having changed all their system machines from acoustical to visual signals, so a mute and deaf boy could start his education there.

Heavily impressed Me. Still does.

So I asked myself, why there aren’t more innovative companies and ideas like this. After all, everybody needs work. And every human needs a few things, always, like Food, Beds, Houses and …. well, basically every living being needs Food, Sex and will die one Day. But the worlds population grew from 1 Billion in 1900 to almost 6,5 Billions in 2006… maybe death needs an apprentice, too? Or son?

A few Hours later this cartoon was my result.

Hope you enjoy it.

About:

Urotsukidoji – The Legend of the Overfiend!

The First Movie is a legend, too. By the Creator of Devilman, this Movie has a lot going for or against it, depending on personal views and tastes. It has a bittersweet tragic lovestory, splatter-effects, horrormoments, great creature designs, sexually explicit scenes (which in the end ALL belong and add to the storyline) imaginative backgrounds and for the time it was made it was quite effective and well done.
Soundtrack to me still is a blast today. Especially the scenes with the Chojin and other Kajus, like Mao, Demon of the Ocans Track.

About:

Unicorns…. was never good in drawing Horses…. never did a lot, anyhow.
Still, I prefer most old drawings from the medieval ages, where they seemed like a mixture of horse, goat and something else in between to the modern kitsch-schlock-tendencies seen in most fantasy-related media today.

This whole “MDE – Mörder des Eigenen” (Murderers of Individualism) Project was my Diploma.

______________________________________________

About the Work:

I started working on this Project when I was 15, but only as a Science-Fiction-Horror Story, for a Novel to a Book.
It felt good at the time, reading it some years later showed, it did not fuly hold up to what was expected on the Bookmarket aimed at mature Readers.

When looking for a Diploma-Subject, I came back to it and started drawing away. The Storyline as given, but I changed some facts.
It is more interesting to start a story in the middle and then, after the reader is totally confused, go back to the beginning.
This is

a) better for the Diploma, because I can skip the Introduction and can get to the Action fast
b) good for the Reader, since he will know immediately what is to come up, and not stop reading and leaving the Series after several published Issues because it takes a Road he did not expect and does not want to travel down.
c) makes it more interesting, because if the first Chapter is already entitled “What the Fack?!” (yes, I like to spell it with “A”, good for cursing but without it’s original meaning), it just makes more curious to see what this is all about.

Besides some small Elements on the Cover, the whole Manga was drawn classically by hand, using layout markers and india ink.
Even the Logotype was made by hand, carving andcutting out Linoleum and printing it manually untill I was satisfied, scanning it, and turning all white elements to black.

About the subject:

MDE means “Mörder des Eigenen”, which can not truly been translated in it’s meaning into english.
It would resemble something like “Murderers of Individualism” and “Murderers of your true Inner Self”, something into this direction.

The whole story revolves around normal people being thrown into a world controlled by zombie-like creatures, which are controlled by parasites, and can hardly be destroyed, since they always regenerate and mutate, much like John Carpenter’s “The Thing”

References to movies are made on every second page, and the most influence I got for this was from:

Don Siegel’s “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”
John Carpenter’s Interpretation of  “The Thing”
