About:

Thanks Ubbe Iwerks and Walt Disney!!!

On November 18th 1928 “Steamboat-Willie” was presented to the public, the birth of Micky Mouse, after “Oswald the Lucky Rabbit” got lost in a fight for copyrights with another Producer working with Ubbe and Walt.
An empire of Animation and comics and (sadly) financial market guiding power aroused after this Movie. Success of Illustrator and Animator Ubbe Ert Iwwerks and Producer Walt-Disney seemed unstoppable from then on.

Anyhow, Happy Birthday, Micky!!!

About:

Re-Brushed revisit to one of my friends, family and fans favourite little characters I ever drew until now. (Well, and he’s a big favourite of mine, too) I felt somehow I need to reBrush the old works on new papers, since it has all been black and white and was done on 80g/qm, plain copy paper and did not look all that well and clean any more after six years.
I guess it was worth the trouble, it looks fresher then before.
And helped me set the tone for “Mortimer” and thinks to come for him and his Daddy.

About the Original:

This little comic was an Excercise for my Studyings. Absolutely had no idea what to do, until one Night at 5 AM I listened to the news, where a backing company got an award for having changed all their system machines from acoustical to visual signals, so a mute and deaf boy could start his education there.

Heavily impressed Me. Still does.

So I asked myself, why there aren’t more innovative companies and ideas like this. After all, everybody needs work. And every human needs a few things, always, like Food, Beds, Houses and …. well, basically every living being needs Food, Sex and will die one Day. But the worlds population grew from 1 Billion in 1900 to almost 6,5 Billions in 2006… maybe death needs an apprentice, too? Or son?

A few Hours later this cartoon was my result.

Hope you enjoy it.

Really Love the double-meaningful Title. ^_^
Another Illustration for the Exhibition of “Braunfels – Three Times Differently Seen” where my Father, a female Partner and I made Illustrations for.
My Father (lothar-zutt.de) made realistic Illustrations, Partner Photos and I did fairytale-like grim-tale Illustrations.

This whole “MDE – Mörder des Eigenen” (Murderers of Individualism) Project was my Diploma.

______________________________________________

About the Work:

I started working on this Project when I was 15, but only as a Science-Fiction-Horror Story, for a Novel to a Book.
It felt good at the time, reading it some years later showed, it did not fuly hold up to what was expected on the Bookmarket aimed at mature Readers.

When looking for a Diploma-Subject, I came back to it and started drawing away. The Storyline as given, but I changed some facts.
It is more interesting to start a story in the middle and then, after the reader is totally confused, go back to the beginning.
This is

a) better for the Diploma, because I can skip the Introduction and can get to the Action fast
b) good for the Reader, since he will know immediately what is to come up, and not stop reading and leaving the Series after several published Issues because it takes a Road he did not expect and does not want to travel down.
c) makes it more interesting, because if the first Chapter is already entitled “What the Fack?!” (yes, I like to spell it with “A”, good for cursing but without it’s original meaning), it just makes more curious to see what this is all about.

Besides some small Elements on the Cover, the whole Manga was drawn classically by hand, using layout markers and india ink.
Even the Logotype was made by hand, carving andcutting out Linoleum and printing it manually untill I was satisfied, scanning it, and turning all white elements to black.

About the subject:

MDE means “Mörder des Eigenen”, which can not truly been translated in it’s meaning into english.
It would resemble something like “Murderers of Individualism” and “Murderers of your true Inner Self”, something into this direction.

The whole story revolves around normal people being thrown into a world controlled by zombie-like creatures, which are controlled by parasites, and can hardly be destroyed, since they always regenerate and mutate, much like John Carpenter’s “The Thing”

References to movies are made on every second page, and the most influence I got for this was from:

Don Siegel’s “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”
John Carpenter’s Interpretation of  “The Thing”

About:

Original Idea for this Illustration: An Illustration / Self-Portrait of Dave Bonneywell, Special Effects Artist, whose page “dbonneywell.com” seems to have vanished, at least at the time I am typing this.
I thank Mr. Boneywell a lot for this Illustration, it went straight to what I imagined for one Illustration, but could not manage completely myself, all my efforts loked so “duh” until I saw his Self-Portrait. I exchanged the Parasite, Mr. Bonneywell got replaced by me, and I tried to make it look similar, but different enough to be a standalone work.
Sadly I never could show it to Mr. Bonneywell. Hope he is all right and hope I can chat to him one day again, about this illustration and some more ^__^

The Illustration for the biggest side of the “MDE-DVD-Retro-Box”….. YES, it’s gross. And I love it.

The Title itself is an Hommage to “Hypocrisy’s “Slave to the Parasites”…. love the title, though the Parasites inside the “MDE – Mörder des Eigenen” Story are the parasites are a symbol for ideologies implanted into our heads by Mass-Media, unlike in Hypocrisy’s Track.

About:

One of the two Sides of the MDE-DVD-Retro-Box.

When someone is making his Diploma in the Academy I have been, it’s typicall you do not get a lot of sleep in these six months, simply due to the fact that you never have enough Blood in Your Coffee.
So to say, you are doing a lot of nerdy Things, when you drive you never know how you managed to reach your goal alive, and so on.
When a Friend of mine helped me to render this digitalized Head (which is an Hommage to the much more insect-like deformed head of John Carpenter’s Interpretation of “the Thing”) I told her, “Ouh, what a nice Colour, this looks so….” and we called this Illustration this word from then on. I know, this play with words does not work in Foreign language, I am Sorry…
we called it “Tuffi-Tucki-Tunti-Rosa” ^__^
